140 mm Rotor

It is small, about the size of the 34t cog.

Cool Concept, Short Life

SRAM Matchmaker, on its second ride. I probably hit the shifter on my leg when I tried to unclip in a hurry. This thing snapped instantly, left me an unusable front shifter. Luckily the part holding the brake was intact so I could still finish the ride. No I seriously worried about the Matchmakers on my Titus. Definitely don't want the same thing happen during SM100.

Edit: Originally I called this "Poor Quality" but then changed to "Short Life" just to be objective.

Broken Saddle

Date: 7/28/2009, 5pm-ish
Place: Knuckle buster
Saddle: Fizik Arione
Bike: Seven Verve SS
Rider weight with gears: 150 lb

The plastic frame cracked all the way across in the middle. The cover was intact and held up fine for the next two hours ride in the Shed. Too bad the saddle didn't even last for a year.

Popped Spoke

I started to hear the "cling-cling" sound coming from the rear maybe around lap 7 . I couldn't figure it out until Sunday when I was cleaning the bike. A spoke was popped out! That was only the second ride on the wheelset, I'm under 150lb, and didn't even jump anything. The lack of robustness got me a little worried. I would certainly hate to see it happen again in the middle of SM100...

Project X Update

Found out the SRAM FORCE 10-spd rear derailleur didn't work with the SRAM XO 9-spd shifter (they both claim to be 1:1). I wasn't happy with the SRAM 970 9-spd road cassette either, so I went out again to source some more good parts. The project is slowly moving ahead.

In picture: a beautiful Dura Ace 12-27t 9spd cassette on a CrossMax SLR.

Fix It! 2

To test the disc cog, I bolted it on the Surly/Mavic 717 wheel and set everything up. I took the bike, now with front brake only, outside the garage and planned to give it a try. At first I couldn't get it started, because I was so much used to coasting. Once I figured it out I rode around the community a couple loops. The ride felt different but it was definitely interesting. I'm going to ride on the pavement a little more before venturing into the wildness.
